40 Book Challenge: Walk a Mile in My Shoes

Empathy is the ability to understand and share the feelings of another. When we empathize with other humans we have a better, broader view and understanding of people and the world around us.
This 40 book challenge asks you to walk a mile in someone else's shoes by reading picture books. You may recognize yourself and your family in some of these stories, but many of them will offer you new perspectives about identity, family, ability, love, heritage, culture, and more. As you read each title, shade in the corresponding number on the sole of the shoes. Once you've completed the challenge, your REAL prize is walking away with 40 stories in your heart that will help you better understand people. But, once you finish, bring your completed paper to the MES library to receive a token to celebrate your accomplishment.
How can you access all 40 books? We have all 40 in the school's library collection where they will remain for all to access throughout the school day. You can also find many of these titles on Epic. You might take your list to the public library and checkout some of the books to read as a family. Additionally, you can search YouTube to see if some of the books are available as a read aloud.
